Workout Mondays #2: Delta 5- Mind Your Own Business

Photobucket

So for the second workout monday edition I'm gonna change up the pace a bit with some post punk that falls somewhere between 1979 and 1981...Delta 5's "Mind Your Own Business" is a tune that goes out to all you 9 to 5ers, who are recovering from a weekend hangover and don't feel like putting up with your bosses' shit this morning...so Lumbergh, you a'int gettin a taste from my ice cream, you a'int lickin' the crumbs off my table, and no you a'int interferin' with my crisis! Mind yo' own damn business!! hahaha

Slow Jam Saturdays #1: Jack & The Mods- One is Enough for One

Photobucket

Here's a 70s cut from one of my roadtrip staple compilations, Home Schooled: The ABCs of Kids Soul. For those not familiar with the LP, it's a collection of rare tunes recorded and performed by artists all under the age of 13, however most of them never recieved the kinda exposure of an MJ or even Foster Sylvers for that matter. Jack & The Mods's "One is Enough for One" stands out as my favorite tune to sit back on a lazy saturday afternoon and relax a busy week of hustlin'...

Globetrot Thursdays #1: Bebeto- Princesa Negra de Angola

Photobucket

Am running kinda late on my thursday post, since my internet was down all day, but looks like i'll make the post just in the nick of time...So yeah each and every thursday we will globetrot music of artist from all over the world, both past and present. This week, we begin in brazil with some 70s disco samba soul. Bebeto's "Princesa Negra de Angola" is one of those gems that has found its way to the crates of most funk/rare groove vinyl enthusiasts. It got one of those catchy call and response hooks that anyone can chant to, no matter what language they speak. The instrumental's loaded with some skank guitar and horn driven melodies that make ya wanna get up with your partner and serenade some sin.

Rockabilly Wednesdays #1: Flea Bops- Good Time Woman

Photobucket

It's humpday, and for your mid week pleasure i'll be diggin' through my ol' 7 inch crate of jump blues to share with y'all each week. First joint to come outta the stack is "Good Time Woman" by The Flea Bops, a fun tune written in the early 90s but manages to maintain that traditional raw 50s sound. Ironically, i remember randomly picking up this vinyl at a flea market, mostly cause of their unique band name and the lady upright bassist on the cover.

Talkbox Tuesdays #1: Roger Troutman- In the Mix

Photobucket

So for those of you who have jammed with me as of late, know that i am obsessed with playing the talkbox..my goal is to get my robot vocal skillz down pat by the end of the year...however unlike a mic vocoder, it's more like taking a shot of speaker straight through a tube and then which you manipulate the soundwaves with your jaw muscles...sounds pretty nuckin' futs... so each tuesday i'll feature a recording that exemplifies the craft. First up, is the dude who every aspiring talkboxer tries to mimmick, Roger Troutman. I'm sure you've probably heard him rock out with Zapp on some of his mainstream cuts "Computer Love" and "More Bounce to the Ounce" ...however my favorite joint of his "In the Mix" is off of his solo LP "Hi Five Roger" ...great motivating music for cookin' up a storm in the kitchen!

So Workout Mondays will feature a random 80s cut to help get your blood flowing for the upcoming week... For this 1st installment, we have the girl group Klymaxx and their tune "Video Kid". It's one of the filler tracks off their Meeting in the Ladies Room LP. Thought it may work well with the theme of this blog..feel free to get up outta your desk and jog in place or something.
